CHEM& 161 General Chemistry w/ Lab I 5 CR An introductory chemistry course for students in programs requiring one or two quarters of general chemistry. Course covers basic principles of modern chemistry, the structure of atoms and molecules, ions, chemical bonding and molecular geometry, the periodic table, chemical formulas and equations, and stoichiometry of reactions and solutions. Lab work included. Prerequisite(s): MATH& 141 with a C or higher and ACCUPLACER Reading (85) or ACCUPLACER NextGen Reading (256) or RDG 085 with a B or higher and ACCUPLACER Sentence Skills (86) or ACCUPLACER NextGen Writing (255) or ENGL 092 with a B or higher OR AENGL 100 with a C or higher. Recommend completion of CHEM& 121 or one year of high school chemistry.
