MACH 141 Introduction to Manual Lathe 5 CR An introductory course emphasizing the proper set up and use of conventional engine lathes. Students will learn to identify the essential parts of an engine lathe and their functions. This will include gear setting to achieve desired speeds and feeds on a variety of different lathes. Work holding and the use of the 3-jaw chuck will be covered. Lathe operations to be introduced will be facing, O.D. turning, grooving, parting-off and drilling. Students will create their own cutting tools by grinding correct geometry on HSS tool blanks. Completion Of or Concurrent Enrollment In: MACH 101 with a C or better and MACH 151 with a C or better; or concurrent enrollment in MACH 101 and MACH 151 ; or Instructor permission.
